Product Overview
Birds by Toikka are mouthblown objects of art. Like the natural birds they represent, each bird is unique down to the minute detail. This gives every bird its very own distinct personality. Since Toikka’s tiny Flycatchers first took flight in 1972, a new bird has joined the flock every year.
Oiva Toikka is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Iittala glass birds first took flight in 1972. Inspired by nature and Toikka’s passion for blown glass art, each bird is a unique art object. Handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory, the collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and Toikka’s hands-on-approach with his master craftsmen.
One of the late Oiva Toikka's most stunning and statuesque designs gets dressed in iittala's soft and soothing shade called "Sand." Inspired by the classic concept of a formal butler, the iittala Toikka Sand Butler greets you with a cordial demeanor and dapper appearance. He proudly wears his uniform of a dark dinner jacket with a flared out tail, but also stays true to his timeless style with stripes that accentuate his prim posture from head to toe. Impeccably groomed, his tuft of hair is artfully sculpted from opalescent, mouth-blown glass, and a long, pointed beak is the prominent feature of his face. His feet are firmly planted to a rounded base with a glossy finish, the result of his dedication to perfectly polished shoes. His strongest loyalty, however, lies in delighting you and your guests, who will surely be impressed by his handcrafted character. Display this statuesque stunner on its own or introduce him to the rest of your flock; he pairs especially well with his colleague "Waiter" in the same sandy hue. Each bird is individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittala’s glassworks shop and carries the signature “O. Toikka IITTALA” on its base to ensure authenticity.
